For this brief I had to try a new technique in the genre of photography that I was doing. Wildlife photography was my chosen genre, however, for me the amount of new techniques for me in this genre were limited. I then chose landscape photography as this was a genre that I enjoyed, but one I had not practise much. The concept behind the images was to photographs British Wildlife's habitats without the wildlife in the photo.

f11, 1/250sec, 20mm, ISO 200
This image was of Windermere and is entitled Cormorants. This projects presented many challenges to me. The main challenges were to think differently for landscapes, to make the photographs creative find a range of different locations.
I then experimented with different presets in Lightroom, however I decided to keep the final images colour.
Arctic Char (Windermere)
f11, 1/320sec, 55mm, ISO 100
Great Crested Newt (Cuerden Valley)
f11, 1/40sec, 18mm, ISO 100
Red Squirrel (Whinlatter Forest)
f11, 1/100sec, 110mm, ISO 1250
Osprey (Bassenthwaite)
f11, 1/50sec, 28mm, ISO 800
Osprey (Bassenthwaite)
f11, 1/60sec, 55mm, ISO 800
Final Images
Cormorant (Windermere)
f11, 2.5sec, 46mm, ISO 100
For the above image I bought some nd filters to slow down the shutter, but keep the exposure correct. The filters allowed the water to appear smooth.
Red Squirrel (Whinlatter Forest)
f11, 1/125sec, 60mm, ISO 1250
Osprey (Bassenthwaite)
f11, 1/100sec, 28mm, ISO 800
Great Crested Newt (Cuerden Valley)
f11, 1/6sec, 20mm, ISO 100
Pine Marten (Grizedale Forest)
f11, 1/40sec, 20mm, ISO 400
These images work as a whole, but I feel that the concept would be better over a long time and the habitat could be taken at the time of year that the animal is more abundant. As I photographed the landscapes I wanted to capture an essence of the animal. To do this most effectively I tried to photograph from the animals' point of view. I tried to select rare animals in Britain, animals that are causing problems in nature, like cormorants harming the environment with their guano as there are increased numbers and animals that our threatened.
I then moved to macro photography and started with frost.
f16, 1/60sec, 60mm, ISO 400
f3.2, 1/160sec, 60mm, ISO 400
f16, 1/60sec, 60mm, ISO 400
f16, 1/60sec, 60mm, ISO 400
f16, 1/60sec, 60mm, ISO 400
f16, 1/100sec, 60mm, ISO 400
I think these frost images are good as my first proper go at macro. I aimed to create more of these frost images, but there has been no frost. I feel the best image is the grass seeds that goes diagonally across the frame as it has a sharp subject and good depth of field. The colours are also aesthetically pleasing. I used a flashgun with these images.

f16, 1/60sec, 60mm, ISO 400
f11, 1/60sec, 60mm, ISO 800
After photographing the above raspberries, I realise that seeds would be a good subject. I wanted more than one type of seed in the photo, but they would mix easily on their own. Then I dried a clementine and placed the seeds in their own little compartments, the orange of the clementine added extra colour to the photograph.
f11, 1/20sec, 60mm, ISO 100
f3.5, 1/20sec, 60mm, ISO 100
f4.8, 1/20sec, 60mm, ISO 100
f4.8, 1/20sec, 60mm, ISO 100
I feel these images work, but not so much as a series. With the seeds and the clementine I think some of the images have two much depth of field and not enough in focus, which could be improved with smaller apertures or more creative angles.
f16, 1/60sec, 60mm, ISO 100
f3.5, 1.0sec, 60mm, ISO 100
f3.5, 1/5sec, 60mm, ISO 400
f3.3, 1/5sec, 60mm, ISO 400
f3.5, 1/5sec, 60mm, ISO 400
f3.5, 1/5sec, 60mm, ISO 400
These musical instrument photographs show how I have gained more technical ability and more creativity. I feel these are the best series of images as they work well together. I feel they work as they are aesthetically pleasing and viewers may question what they are and look closer.
In doing this brief I have learnt how to do two more genres, which has allowed me to widen my portfolio and it will also improve my wildlife photography, as I will be able to include the landscape and get an all round image. Both of these techniques still require more work, but I have gained a basic technique. Although for me it was very challenging I gained a better understanding and technique of different genres. This will develop and hopefully will make me a well rounded photographer.
